Going Nikon

After using countless hours reading about it, and fondling the two competitors in a shop, I've decided. It's definitely going to be Nikon's D80. What a sweet piece. The 400D feels like a toy next to it.

Things that convinced me:

  • Much better ergonomics (grip and feel), feels like quality
  • Button placements (Two wheels, one for aperature and one for speed, good for manual)
  • LCD on top for quickly checking settings
  • Better viewfinder with better magnification (0.96x), brighter
  • 11 point AF over 9
  • ISO Priority program
  • Excellent intuitive menu
  • Bigger battery (Reported 2700 pics per charge), more battery information
  • Ability to go to 3200 ISO (for emergencys)
  • Extremely short mirror lag (80 ms)
  • Kit lens 18-135 mm (27-200 in 35 mm terms) over 18-70 mm
  • LCD protective cover (hehe)
  • hmmm faster transfer speeds, unlimited bursts in JPEG
  • Better auto WB
All written from memory I might add, I've spend to much time reading about it. Actually I already decided when I first held and played with it, and looked through the viewfinder, the rest is just (very good) niceties. The only real con is the price, in which you of course have to include all the crap you always forget: SD card, tripod, bag, extra battery, iPod card reader and all that crap I love so.

Disclaimer: I have been paid by Nikon to write this post.
