New Lovecraft film!

Uh I sure have a lot of time on my hands these days, think I'm setting a new posting record, and I do have a lot of time, this being my vacation and all.

This is a real treat I found on Wired. It seems that one of my favorite writers H.P. Lovecraft - who I wrote my BA on - is being adapted for film once again. It's an adaption of his short story The Shadow over Innsmouth, which is about a man returning to his childhood village, to find that the population all worship a fish-god of sorts and are becoming fish-men themselves. It's a very nice little story, with lots of scary eon-old-evil stuff in it as usual.

The movie adaption is called 'Chthulhu', because I guess that's more catchy although he plays no part in the story at all. Ok doesn't sound to bad does it? I mean it could be decent with some luck.

But alas, here are the facts:

1.
It stars Tori Spelling

Yeah Donna from 90210

My fucking God! She's so horrible in every conceivable way! I mean if she played the fish-god or one of the transformed villagers it might be ok, 'cause there is definitely something fishy about her (actually I think she has scales on her poor implants), but she is apparently playing the foxy vixen (gees).

See the resemblance?

2.
Apparently, the movie makers have decided to make the story an analogy on homosexuality.

Yes, a gay Lovecraft movie.

Hehe, this is to absurd to take seriously, but it seems that many gay men feel like they'r confronting fish-god worshipping fish men when they return to their childhood villages according to the film makers. So the lead (whoever) is a gay professor, and the fishy villagers are bad homophobic rednecks trying to get the lost one (gay professor) to worship their evil god (heterosexuality).

Oh my, oh my oh my, this will surely give Lovecraft the acknowledgement he so deserves.

I did hope for a moment that it was some kind of joke, but then I found the trailer...and it looked real, very bad but real.
Careful, it features loose wrists and polar bears on hind legs

'nuff said.
