Double Loppen

Caught a couple of concerts this weekend. Friday there was "One night at Loppen", a showcase of some up-coming bands, this time it was Said the Shark, Wintermere and Yellowish.
I was only there for Said the Shark, who I really like. And it was an excellent concert. The lead singer Maya Saxell from Canada, has such a beautiful voice. I was a bit surprised seeing her in real life, after having heard the record so much. She has a very husky and hoarse voice, so I was expecting someone older, and a perhaps a bit rough looking, hehe guess I just have silly prejudices, cause she was this pretty short, very neat blonde girl.

The band played magnificently, I especially liked the percussionist and Kim Oxlund (who is the second official part of Said the Shark when they are not playing live), who played guitar, percussion and keyboard, often at the same time as you will see below.
The other two bands I weren't really interested in, well a bit in Wintermere, but at that point I was to busy drinking.

The second concert was with The Blood Brothers, again at Loppen. My companion and me was very surprised when we arrived, seeing a huge line of kids in front of the entrance. Seems that Blood Brothers also appeals to the cryptic emo-kid segment. The place was stuffed with 15-16 year olds brandishing their silly eyeliner, piercings, scarred wrists and fake ID's to get a beer. The place was totally packed, which was rather annoying since I had a two day hangover, and really just wanted to sit, drink my coke and smoke cigarettes.

Well we made due, and got a place at the side of the stage, to avoid the mosh pit in front. The band really gave it their all, playing with an energy like it was their first and last show of the tour. The lead singers really do sing like that, it's pretty amazing, and not once did I hear their voices break or the like. They are actually also excellent singers when not screaming, there was this quiet number that was very cool, but of course the 'hits' caused the most appreciation from the crowd, "set fire to the face on fire", "Trash-flavoured trash" and "Love rhymes with hideous car wreck". The blond singer is very charismatic, often the roadies had to push crazy teenage girls of the stage. If he had thrown himself in the crowd they would have torn him apart. The new Take That? I hope...
